Bruce Wood’s work is part of a cultural vernacular—

impulsivedance fusion often laced with perfectly timed

humor and infused with raw emotional content.

Bruce Wood Dance Project, with Broadway Stars Liz Callaway and Hugh Panaro, Deliver Another Refreshing Break from the Usual Holiday Dance

As much as we love The Nutcracker we could do with a change. That we got with Bruce Wood Dance Project’s ever-so-sophisticated Mistletoe Magic, a one-night show that features Broadway stars Liz Callaway (Miss Saigon, Cats, Evita) and Hugh Panaro (The Phantom of the Opera, Show Boat, Sweeney Todd), as well as a terrific music ensemble and the always superb dancers.

The Bruce Wood Dance Project Closes Its Season with Two Diverse and Memorable World Premieres, with a Wood Revival

The risks paid off Friday night at Dallas City Performance Hall, where the Bruce Wood Dance Project took a gamble with Kimi Nikaidoh’s Bloom and Katarzyna Skarpetowska’s Klezmer Rodeo, the first poignant and the second wildly off-kilter. As for the opening work, Bruce Wood’s tense No Sea to Sail In, that was a no-brainer.

Bruce Wood Dance Project Gives Haunting, Introspective Performance

Bruce Wood’s 2004 dance No Sea to Sail In has always been a dark and enigmatic work, and its revival in the final major concert of the year for Bruce Wood Dance Project feels oddly prescient. It was an excellent kickoff to a performance that included two diverse world premieres by BWDP Artistic Director Kimi Nikaidoh and New York choreographer Katarzyna Skarpetowska on Saturday at Dallas City Performance Hall.
